Madigan sends:

Well, it's about time these wayward innkeepers got home!  How'd they 'spect me to keep up on things when they take the laptop with 'em?

So, she's reading on my couch again.  Looks like the Marr Ranch--that property south of Joseph Oregon next to Wallowa Lake--got a new name.  It belongs to the Oregon State Parks now and they've got a name that means something in the Nez Perce language.

Can you say "Iwetemlaykin"?  She couldn't.  Not til she saw it spelled out phonetically.  How about "ee weh TEMM lye kinn"?  It means "at the edge of the lake" which makes a lot of sense.  The whole new name is "Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site".  Wallowa Lake is right there and the Wallowa River is running through the property.  And it's sacred lands.

She said the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has a
plan for turning the land into this heritage site.   They've got the money to do the work and it's 'sposed to be done by September 2009.

Nez Perce National Historical Park Old Chief Joseph Gravesite and CemeteryThis new site is right next to the Old Chief Joseph Gravesite and Cemetery.  It ties everything together in one place.

It sounds like a good idea to me.  People can take an Eastern Oregon vacation and learn more about the Nez Perce people.  About Chief Joseph.  About the Nee Mee Poo National Historic Trail.   And they can stay with me at my
Joseph bed and breakfast while they do it.  Mahvelous!  Company!
