Grits is good? Grits are good?

Time to mix it up a little at the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast. . .how about a little fun and games in Joseph Oregon. . .and something you won't find on any hotel breakfast menu in these parts. . .

Ever watch "My Cousin Vinny"?  Remember the scene early on in the diner?

How entertaining. . . Blank
but often the reaction I get from my guests!

Every now and then I get a hankerin' to serve a real southern breakfast.  Today was the day--

  • Sectioned grapefruit (or cantaloupe)
  • Farm fresh eggs to order (preferably fried in bacon grease aka "seasoning")
  • Crispy bacon
  • English muffins with butter and jam (okay, it should've been scratch buttermilk biscuits, but I was running a little behind)
  • Hominy grits with a dab of butter (real grits, not instant)
Before you go into absolute apoplexy from this cholesterol- and fat-laden breakfast, you should know that I don't do this that often.  We serve plenty of fresh fruit, savory fare, lower fat content foods too.

But every now and then, and especially with the guests' permission, it's fun to cook like the way I was raised by a woman from Birmingham, Alabama.
