Day 2014 is just around the corner and the art galleries of Joseph
Oregon are ready to host another fabulous event! The 7th
Annual Joseph Art Walk for Mother's Day Weekend takes place on
Saturday and Sunday, May 10 & 11, 2014.
The Art Walk hours are Saturday from 3 pm to 7 pm and Sunday
from 11 am to 4 pm. You'll have opportunities to meet many of
the artists who are represented by the galleries along Main Street,
see artist demonstrations and new works of art, and all while
you're planning your spring and summer travel schedule, here's a
great article from CNN Travel about the tallest, deepest, longest,
etc., record-setting places in the United States to visit.
Feature writer Helyn
Trickey Bradley has come up with 10 superlative sights for US
travel. Two are in Oregon. And one is right here in
Wallowa County! She writes:
The Grand Canyon in Arizona may be immense, boasting
nearly 277 river miles in length, but for sheer depth, Hells Canyon
in eastern Oregon,...
Videos and other materials are just starting to roll out about
the Seven Wonders of Oregon, a new campaign hosted by Travel Oregon
to introduce some remarkable places in our gorgeous state.
The Wallowa Mountains of Eastern Oregon and the surrounding
area were lucky (and naturally) chosen to be one of those.
Here's Travel Oregon's video about the Wallowas. She's
not named, but our friend Alice is the rider seen in the
Great teaser footage for the town of Joseph Oregon too!
you attending Summer Fishtrap 2014 at Wallowa Lake, Oregon?
Still trying to decide where in Eastern Oregon to stay for
the week? If you don't want to stay "on campus" in one of the
yurts or in the bunkhouse at the Wallowa Lake Camp and Retreat Center (affectionately
known to longtime Fishtrappers as the "Methodist Camp") and you're
used to staying in nicer bed and breakfasts or hotels when you
travel, then allow us to propose a stay at the Bronze Antler Bed
and Breakfast nearby in Joseph...
are always wondering whether there's anything to do out here in the
Eastern Oregon winter besides enjoy downhill skiing, backcountry skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing and other classic wintertime
outdoor activities. Nothing wrong with any of them, but what
do you do once it's time to come in at dark?
How about intimate music experiences? Every second
Saturday of the month throughout the winter season, the Wallowa
Valley Music Alliance hosts Tunesmith Night, a showcase of original music in...
You've got to give Chuck Anderson, our honorable Alpenmeister,
some credit for very creative fundraising to support the Oregon
Alpenfest celebration. Even though Alpenfest
doesn't happen until late September, he's out here in February with
an Opera Night!
And what do you get? Opera classics in practically the
most remote corner of Oregon, performed by very talented young
people, a great dinner, and the opportunity to get out of the house
in the middle of winter. What's better than...
flash! We just learned yesterday that the popular Oregon Mountain
Cruise classic car show in Joseph Oregon will take a break for
June 2014. This particular event is one of the big kickoff
weekends of summer since it holds the 2nd weekend of June slot
right after the Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts
From the cruise's website:
It's been 25 years since a group of
family & friends from all over the northwest joined together to
organize and host the "Oregon Mtn. Cruise Car Show" in...
the depths of winter there are people getting engaged and thinking
about a summer wedding at Wallowa Lake or in Joseph Oregon.
How do I know? Because, when I take a look at the
analytics behind our Joseph Oregon bed and breakfast blog, there
are people searching for terms like "joseph oregon wedding" and
people reading blog posts I've written about where to get married
near Wallowa Lake or where to get married in
So here we are, nearing the end of December 2013, and...
We handle a lot of phone calls from prospective guests who want
to know if the winters are sunny in Joseph, Oregon. I'm
guessing a lot of these folks are from the Seattle, Washington, or
Portland, Oregon area, where we hear that the sun shines but the
winters are pretty gray..
The answer: Yes!Our
winters are definitely sunny! Because we're in
Eastern Oregon we don't have the clouds that seem to hang on the
western side of the Cascade Mountains. It seems as though we
have only a handful of...
Berg, owner & professional photographer at Unique Angles
Photography, is returning to our Eastern Oregon bed and
breakfast in early June to update our portfolio of high quality images. Sure, we can always
capture images on our digital camera or our smartphones and they'll
look fine on the Facebook page, but it's also important for the Bronze
Antler Bed & Breakfast to have high quality "dense" images for
magazines and other print advertising.
Street Journal writer Tess Weaver recently wrote about ski mountaineering for the Wall Street
Journal (published February 27, 2013), noting that skiing uphill is
gaining in popularity around the United States and might even make
the 2022 Winter Olympics.
You can find plenty of that kind of activity out here near
Joseph Oregon. And you won't have to worry about purchasing a
lift ticket or competing with downhill resort skiers. The
Wallowa Mountains are a tucked away corner of Oregon with...
thing that separates the bed and breakfast community from many
other lodging options (especially hotels) is free wireless
internet. There is no additional daily charge at
most bed and breakfasts for wireless internet. And certainly not
here at the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast!
Here at our Joseph Oregon lodging we just upgraded our internet
service by making some changes to our existing infrastructure.
We did this to make our wireless internet service easier to
access, faster, and to...
morning I took a same-day reservation from a Portland, Oregon-based
birder who is coming out today on short notice to see a bird.
Apparently a Little Bunting was found here in Joseph Oregon over the past few days.
Looking at the ABA Birding News, it appears this Siberian
bird has only been seen twice in the continental United States,
both times in California. What a great find right here in
Eastern Oregon! For a look at this bird, here's a nice photo from the Surfbirds website. For an...
of the really great things about owning a bed & breakfast in
Joseph Oregon is meeting artists. With so many
artistic bronze foundries in the area plus drop dead gorgeous
scenery, they like coming to Eastern Oregon to work. And we love it
when they choose to stay at our
Joseph bed and breakfast
This morning Patrick Blythe was at the
breakfast table. Patrick is a glass and (more recently)
bronze sculptor, turning out beautiful abstract works from his
solar-powered studio in the California...
seems to be the time that many brides are planning their upcoming
weddings. We have a new venue available
right here in Joseph Oregon: the Josephy Center for
Arts and Culture. This building is located right on Main
Street at the north end of Joseph (on the way to Enterprise), about
a 10 minute drive from Wallowa Lake.
Yes, it has a lot of angles to the roof line, which makes for
some interesting spaces inside. Big wedding? Go for the Gold Gallery on the main floor (seats up to...
in March 2010 I wrote a blog post about planning your wedding in
Joseph Oregon or at Wallowa Lake (you can read that post in full
here. It's amazing how many people have
read that post! Nancy's blue barn and the Wallowa Lake
Tramway are still very nice locations for a Wallowa Couny Wedding
and we've hosted guests who've participated in weddings in these
Here's another great wedding venue that keeps a website with
plenty of great photos and information for wedding planning out
thing guests here at the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast often
comment about is the attention to detail found at
our Joseph Oregon lodging. When you check in you'll find
pretty much everything you'll need from high end toiletries, comfy
spa robes and slippers, a blow dryer, magnifying make up mirror,
corkscrew and hand-painted wine glasses, to more items we won't
mention here (except for the rubber ducky and the bubble bath).
But the one thing you definitely will never find at our...
something to do on New Year's Eve? Here's a great feel good
idea. . .
New Year's Eve in Wallowa County, Oregon, just got kicked up a
Alibis will be performing New Year's Eve at the AAUW New Year's
Eve fundraiser party! For the 2012-2013 New Year the party's
happening at the Elks Club in Enterprise, Oregon--only a 10 minute
drive away from the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast.
Details are still unfolding, but there will be food, a
cash bar and plenty of great dancing music. ...
We're wrapping up the Bronze Blues & Brews Festival 2012
here in Joseph Oregon. Two sets of guests flew themselves
& their spouses to Joseph State Airport (also knows as KJSY) in
their private aircraft. We were fortunate enough that one
guest, Ken, took a short video on his phone of Chris making a
picture perfect landing on Saturday morning before the festival
Joseph State Airport was renovated within the last couple of
years and has new paving on the taxiway and the parking skirt.
